Tales and Golden Histories

BRAND NEW ALBUM WITH VESA NORILO
Picture
Harpist Lily Neill and Cellist Vesa Norilo weave a luminous tapestry of music from Finland, Sweden, Ireland, and Brittany, along with newly composed melodies influenced by traditional folk music from further a-field.  With only a harp and cello, the two music mavericks command a dramatic range of exhilarating bass lines and percussive rhythms, and evocative, stirring melodies.
Neill and Norilo met in 2005, and were brought together by their love of a broad array of music and their desire to explore the unending musical possibilities of the harp and cello.  What started as tune sharing became an adventure of exploration, of seeing how far Neill and Norilo could push the harp and cello to create as expansive a sound-world as possible.
Listeners will be hard pressed to find more obscure melodies, on less obvious instruments; ‘Tales and Golden Histories’ leaves conventional at the door, revelling in the freedom of possibility.

Pagoda 2-Piece Set:

Lily Neill and artist Marcelo Gallegos have created a feast for the senses in this package where worlds collide.
Lily Neill's single, “The Pagoda”, harks back to some of her early work on the album "Without Words".  She is joined once again by koto player Claudia Erland in an escapist, musical Shangri-La illustrated by Marcelo Gallegos.  The harp and koto both have illustrious histories rooted in Irish and Japanese mythology; Marcelo’s representation of the koto as a dragon cradling a harp takes its cues from both instruments’ stories.
The signed CD features "The Pagoda" and also contains three bonus tracks by Lily Neill (from "Without Words" and "The Habit of a Foreign Sky").  Each Pagoda dragon print is printed with archival inks on Arches 100% cotton watercolor paper (Arches paper has been produced in France since 1492).  This gorgeous paper has a lovely cold-pressed watercolor texture, with a bright white color.  Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. Measures 5½x5½”.

Without Words

Picture
“I got a copy and was just amazed [...] I knew she had tremendous promise”. – Paddy Moloney, “The Chieftains".  "Without Words", Lily's debut album, was released when Lily was still a teenager and is a culmination of several years of studio work.  It showcases a broad range of stylistic influences, from Lily’s original compositions to Irish and Scottish folk music to Japanese classical music and rock n’roll.  Upon its release, "Without Words" was given a pre-nomination nod by the U.S. GRAMMY committee, received an honorable mention as one of the Irish Echo's top albums and earned Lily the Female Artist of the Year award from the Irish-American News and Liveireland.com.

The Habit of a Foreign Sky

Picture
“The Habit of a Foreign Sky” continues on the musical path where “Without Words” left off.  Lily’s peripatetic music life shaped the album’s tone, making it a truly original work and a mosaic of music that redefines harp playing.  fRoots magazine called the new album, " …a sparkling and delightful album of superb music from start to finish and well worth seeking out", and Celtic Beat wrote, “If ever a harper made a harp dance it is Lily Neill.  Seldom have I heard such a sprightly get up and dance kind of album produced with harp.  Lily Neill establishes beyond a doubt from the start on this CD that she is her own woman and a versatile one as a composer.  Lily Neill is one of the most exciting artists today by virtue of the music that she both composes and performs”!
